The Presidential Broadcast to the Nation on Coronavirus by President Buhari is viewed by many political party leaders that spoke to National Peoples News as rather belated and that though the President took some measures that could have been useful in nibbling the spread of the Coronavirus in its bud from spreading to many parts of the Nation if it has come earlier.
They knocked the strategies of the President as not proactive enough in tackling the growing epidemic from hitting the pandemic stage as in the context of not engaging in mass testing of the population; as the testing centers are few and far between, they chided the APC government that only about 200 Nigerians have so far been tested and out of this 111 tested positive which is in the range of 60% if the figures where to be used as random sampling in statistics it means a large chunk of Nigerians are positive already but do not know their status while the virus is in the incubation stage before it explodes like wildfire as it did in Italy, Spain, USA, and China.
They are of the opinion that mass testing strategy would be an ideal option to rapidly identify those with the virus and isolate them for treatment before it is too late and they start dying. They urged the government to open up testing centers in the 774 lga and in all towns and villages of Nigeria so that people can know their status and begin early treatment.
Many Nigerians were disappointed by the stingy palliative measures of the APC government as they were earnestly looking forward to some grants or stipends being paid to their accounts as other Nations are supportive to their citizens or anticipated the Kigali Model [Rwanda] where foodstuff and essential needs are being distributed from house to house by the government.
The selective lockdown of Lagos, Ogun, and FCT is seen by many as not proactive enough to stem the spread of the virus while some legal luminaries see the action may cause a constitutional crisis.
The position of IPAC -Inter-Party Advisory Council is for a total lockdown of the country for a marshal approach to curtailing and containing the spread of the virus.
