The IRI- International Republican Institute of the United
States of America on the 30th of October 2014 held an International
workshop at the prestigious five star Hotel – Best Western Hotel in Benin city on How to establish vibrant
democracy in Nigeria and the African continent through the maintenance of genuine
internal party democracy of international standard practice . It was a well
attended workshop of party stalwarts from across the country. The special Guest
of Honor was His Excellency Prince Frank Ukonga the Executive chairman of IPAC-
Iter party Advisory Council] Edo state chapter, and the guest lecturer was the chairman
of the former Ruling party of Ghana- NPP workshop DrPeter Mac Manu,
Hosted by the country Director of IRI Represented Mr. Emeka Duru of IRI. The participant
includes Chief Olufemi Adebayo PDP Sec Ekiti state, Hon, Mr. Arinze
Ekwenchi-Sec Kogi, Hon Gegede Olaosebikan Sec Osun Labour Party, Lawrence

In his keynote address to the participants His Excellency
Prince frank Ukonga the IPAC Chairman Edo state said: “on the behalf of Edo
state and the entire people of Nigeria we
thank the IRI- International Republican Institute of the United states of
America, we thank the President of the United States of America His Excellency Barack
Obama, for hosting the prestigious international workshop in Edo state of the Nigerian
federation emphasizing the imperatives
of such strategic workshop as the 2015 polls of the Nigerian federation is just
by the corner and we empathized with all the participants who are chairmen and
secretaries of political Parties in various states of the Nigerian federation
to imbibe the nutty gritty of the lecture in the context of establishing genuine
democratic culture of international standard practice in Nigerian and sub Saharan
Africa”….
The guest Lecturer of the workshop Dr Peter Mac Manu-
the chairman of the former Ruling Party of Ghana of John Kufour, dueled on six
topics which includes the followings-1] Introduction and overview of the
Training, 2] Understanding Nomination Process;3] Sharing International Best
practices in Organizing Conventions 4] Understanding the Roles And Responsibility
of convention delegates, 5] Developing a checklist for Party Primaries and
conventions- 6] Questions and Answer/ Evaluation. It was a multi media workshop
with projector showing films of primaries of countries like Ghana, Kenya, and
Serria Leone. The lectures were totally all embracing acquainting all the participants
on how to organize successful congress, primaries, how to organize delegate
list, proxy voting, avoid fracas, thugs, fights etc- another segment of the
workshop focused on how to raise funds to organize congress, primaries and
