Breaking News Edo 2016: Obaseki, Frank Ukonga , Ize Iyamu and 16 others Make final INEC list: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the Edo State Governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 10th September 2016. The List showed that 19 candidates would contest the election.

In a document signed and issued by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta C. Ogakwu,19 Political Parties and their Candidates have been cleared by the Commission to contest the election.

Section 34 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides that: “The Commission shall, at least thirty days before the day of the election publish by displaying or causing to be displayed at the relevant office(s) of the Commission and on the Commission’s website, a statement of the full names and addresses of all candidates standing nominated.”

The list of candidates and their parties released are as follows:

On Tuesday the second of August 20 16, the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on election Security - ICCES held a top security summit at the Police Officers Mess in Benin with the leaders of all the political parties in Edo state and the candidates contesting the 2016 governorship polls in the state.
It was a well attended security summit and the top brass of security agencies in Edo state were all present in the epoch making event.
Lots of security challenges were espoused by the Chairman of ICCES Mr Chris Ezike, the Hon Commissioner of Police of Edo state and he assured all stakeholders of the readiness of the police force and the ICCES to achieve a free, fair, credible and conclusive election in Edo state.
The INEC REC Edo state Hon. Sam Olumeken assured all stakeholders of the readiness of INEC to conduct a free, fair, crdible and conclusive election of sept 10, 2016.
H.E Prince frank Ukonga the IPAC Chairman of Edo state signed the Peace Accord on the behalf of all the political parties of Edo state and assured all stakeholders of the readiness of IPAC- Inter Party Advisory council to cooperate with INEC and the security agencies of Edo state to have a free, fair, credible and conclusive governorship election of Sept 10, 2016.

Towards the success of the 2016 governorship polls of Edo state, the independent National Electoral Commission of the Nigerian Federation under the distinguish leadership of Professor Mahmud Yakubu Organized a one Day workshop in Benin city yesterday August 3rd, 2016 at Bishop Kelly Pastoral Hall, to sensitize and launch the Alternative Dispute Resolution Concept in Benin City Edo state.
The Event was chaired by the INEC Rec of Edo state Hon. Sam Olumekun and H.E Prince Frank Ukonga the chairman of IPAC Edo state was special guest of Honor leading all chairmen and secretaries of all political parties in Edo state to attend the one day workshop.
Many other organizations were ably represented in the one day workshop on intra party Alternative dispute Resolution and Inter party Alternative Dispute Resolution.
The INEC Rec Edo state Hon Sam Olumekun Urged all political Parties to make  good use of the Alternative Dispute resolution mechanism recently opened by INEC to resolve Intra and Inter Party Disputes.
His Excellency Prince Frank Ukonga called on all leaders of Political Parties in the country to shun rushing their internal Dispute to courts as INEC have wisely open a new department of Alternative Dispute Resolution for all political parties to resolve all conflicts both the pre election conflicts, election conflicts and post election conflicts can be amicably resolved by Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism.

H.E Prince frank ukonga said at the first IPAC Confrenece in Abuja that under his chairmanship of Edo state IPAC and with his believe and promotion of gender equality has beared good friut and made a record of fielding about 7 female in the 2016 governorship polls which is first of its kind and a record set by him in encouraging all chairmen of political parties in Edo state to feid female candidates in at lleast Deputy governor position while he also took a female as his running mate in the 2016 governorship polls as to lead by example.
 On women participation in politics Prince frank Ukonga said that Edo state has made a new record of having most women in the governorship election in the 2016 polls in Nigeria with at least 7  women participating either as governorship candidate or as deputy governor. This represents about 25% representation of women in the Edo governorship polls edging towards the 35% UN and AU recommended and highest in Nigeria so far.
