Breaking News: IPAC-Inter Party Advisory Council-Edo state
chapter- Press Release-
Press statement by Inter- Party Advisory Council –Edo state
Chapter on the Unfolding Drama at Edo State House of Assembly-
In the Executive Council meeting of IPAC, Edo state held on
Wednesday 22ed of Oct 2014 during which the unfortunate events emanating from
Edo state House of Assembly were reviewed, the following observations were
made:
1]IPAC - A body with the mandate to collaborate with INEC to
regulate the conduct of all political parties in Nigeria – Holds, and very
strongly too, that we cannot sit back fold our hands and watch Edo state being
gradually turned into a terrorist and war ravaged enclave.
2] That the disagreement between the APC and the PDP members
of Edo state House of Assembly which had since resulted to one in which there
are now two houses of Assembly in the state – one convening at the designated
chambers at Chief Anthony Enahoro
Complex, Ring Road, Benin City, and the other at the old Exco chambers
at Edo state Government complex at Dennis Osadebe avenue, Benin City – is long
overdue.
3] That the resultant cold war to which it had deteriorated
, such that both groups now tend to haunt themselves as replete in the event
that occurred on the 6th of October 2014 in which Hon. Rasaq Momoh
representing Etsako West constituency in the House was beaten to a comatose
state, and the seeming reprisal attack on the 10th of October 2014
which saw the flagrant display of acts of terrorism and vandalism snowballing
in the hospitalization of several mortally wounded persons and collateral
damages to properties at Edo state House of Assembly Quarters along Ehama Road
are all anti Edo people, barbaric and therefore condemnable in equivocal terms…
In the face of these sad occurrences therefore, we the
members of the Edo state chapter of IPAC- A body with the mandate to
collaborate with INEC to regulate the conduct of all political parties in
Nigeria – Holds, and very strongly too, that we cannot sit back fold our hands
and watch Edo state being gradually turned into a terrorist and war ravaged
enclave.
We therefore call on all concerned parties to this visible
avoidable dispute to henceforth sheathe their swords, go into reconciliation,
promote peace in all ramifications and urgently start delivering on their electoral
promises to the peace loving and hard working peoples of Edo state who
presently are being terrorized, pauperized and even maimed by their actions.
Edo state deserve nothing less than a conducive atmosphere
which would engender the delivery of the dividends of democracy!
