Breaking News:Ahead of 2019 Polls: H.E. Prince Frank Ukonga and Political leaders meet with Top Brass of IRI &NDI on Pre Election Assessment Mission to Nigeria at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Briefing.
A high power delegation of the IRI-International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute on Pre election Assessment Mission to Nigeria held a well attended briefing at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja a few days ago and H.E. Prince Frank Ukonga the Presidential Flag Bearer of Democratic Alternative Party was invited along with other top brass of the Nigerian political turfs and Media Executives.
The High powered delegation of these prestigious global institutions are in Nigeria on Pre 2019 Election Assessment Mission.
The IRI was led by the IRI Regional Director for African Ambassador John Tomaszewski and the Nigerian Country Director of IRI Ambassador Sentell Barnes , while the NDI- National Democratic Institute was led by the Senior Associate and Regional Director Central and Eastern Europe Ambassador Robert Benjamin.
Other members of the delegation were Mvemba Dizolele Professor of John Hopkin University,Sarah Jegede -Toe Co Chair Liberia National Electoral Commission and Anna Jones of National Network Coordinator WANEP [Gambia]
The Pre election assessment for Nigeria was good in particular they focused on the success of Not Too Young to Run bill that has expanded the democratic space of the federation towards 2019 polls, they commended on the improvement of the election administration through enhancement of the ballot secrecy, enhancement of the bio metric verification system, strong commitment by civil society to improve the electoral process and they urged improvement in the delay in finalizing legal framework for 2019 polls,delay in the release of funds for the 2019 polls,security threats,Vote buying,Barriers to Internal Party Democracy, women participation in electoral process, incitement to violence and disinformation.
They had very positive recommendations for the Federal government , the Political Parties, Civil Society, INEC, Media, and the International community addressed to achieve a free , fair and credible elections in 2019
