Breaking News:State Police :HE Frank Ukonga cautions Stakeholders of the 10th Republic; HE Prince Frank Ukonga, a Presidential Aspirant of the Nigerian Federation, commend the dexterity of the IGP Mr. Kayode Egbetokun in his performance in tackling crimes and insurgences headlong and offer the following observations on the ongoing debate of the issue of creating State Police as panacea to curbing crimes, banditry, terrorism and keeping the States and country safe as a great idea. Nonetheless he cautioned that we have to be wary of the idea of proliferation of say 36 states Police High Commands working and taking instructions from state Governors as the highest authority,could be misused. Just as the issue of the Local Govt Institutions of the third tier of government under the governors has beem misused; both their LGA elections, finances and service delivery has been jettisoned by many state governors. Adding another responsibility of State Police to be under the State governors may be adding petrol to an already charged fire and by the time it conflagrates, would be difficult to put off. Again, the governors may use it to witch hunt opposition and perceived enemies and would exacerbate unrest and arrive at the exact opposite of the reason de entrée of the concept of state policing. The real issue is that Nigeria is under policed. We need more police men, to be well trained and rightly motivated under one command could just be ideal. He concluded.
