The vice president who was represented by Senator Babafemi Ojodu emphasized that elections should not be seen as a war, but a process for expressing the will of the people.
He added that the believe that the presidency is witch hunting opposition political party in its fight against corruption, is unfounded, adding that the present government is only interested in putting a stop to the diversion of public fund for campaign purposes to be stopped.
The senate President Dr Bukola Saraki said that to  develop democracy in Nigeria we must respond to the ideological development of political parties, gender equality, inclusion of women and the vulnerable class of the society in the political process, curbing election violence with strict punitive measures, etc. He promised the smooth passage of the gender and equal opportunity bill which will give equal opportunities to all Nigerians and build genuine democratic dispensation in Nigeria.
His Excellency Prince Frank Ukonga the IPAC Chairman of Edo state and the south south region said that lack of funding of political parties by the government is responsible for the current do or die syndrome in politics and this would be ameliorated if the federal government resumes the funding of political parties.
It would also reduce corruption as the need to divert public funds to finance election would be atrophied and this would accelerate the growth and sustainability of genuine democracy in Nigeria.
He also said that Edo state 2016 governorship polls would be free, far, credible and conclusive as IPAC Edo state chapter is working hand in hand with the relevant security brass in the state, INEC, and all stakeholders to ensure that all challenges that can disrupt the election is nibbled in the bud. On women participation in politics Prince frank Ukonga said that Edo state has made a new record of having most women in the governorship election in the 2016 polls in Nigeria with at least 7  women participating either as governorship candidate or as deputy governor. This represents about 25% representation of women in the Edo governorship polls edging towards the 35% UN and AU recommended and highest in Nigeria so far.
