Breaking News: Tributes to Mugabe: The Metamorphosis & Transition of a dogged Sea Farer by H.E Prince Frank Ukonga- National Chairman of DA-Democratic Alternative Party@ 2019 Anno Domini:
Robert Mugabe, born in 1924 at the outskirts of Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia {Zimbabwe}, abandoned by his Father Gabriel at 10, raised by his Mother Bona and the Jesuit, attended the Fort Hare University of Eastern Cape South Africa on Scholarship, graduated and became a teacher in Ghana came back to Rhodesia and joined the revolution for the independence of Rhodesia- a landlocked agrarian colonial enclave of the British imperial.
Co-founded the ZANU -Zimbabwe African National Union a political party that was banned in 1964 for subversion and terrorism and Mugabe was jailed for 10 years. It was in the prison years that he transformed into a full Marxist revolutionary.
Released and exiled to Zambia, arrested by Keneth Kauda the President of Zambia and put in prison as Kauda's dream was a moderate Southern African Community but viewed the politics of Robert Mugabe as too Radical. Escaped and joined forces with ZANU fighters in Mozambique under the sponsorship of the Russian[Soviet Union] backed Revolutionary President Samora Micheal.
The British saw the game was up as the minority rule of the whites in Rhodesia could be overunned by the combined forces of ZANU/ZAPU and other revolutionary fighters called for negotiation in 10 Dawing Street for the Independence of Rhodesia. Joshua Nkomo, Robert Mugabe, and others agreed to a cease-fire and to go to the ballot to elect the first democratic government of Rhodesia.
In 1980 Robert Mugabe's Party ZANU won a landslide victory and formed the post-independence government. He ruled for 37 years.
He would be fondly remembered as an African intelligentsia, a renowned pan Africanist, a Marxist revolutionary, a great leader who saw Africans as one family and believed that Africans are capable and better than their white oppressors, a liberator who unfortunately was caught in the Liberator's dilemma of becoming an oppressor in order to push through his land nationalization agenda and transfer of the land from the white oppressors to the original owners, the native aboriginal Africans. This constitutional empowerment of the citizens was opposed by the western imperialists and sanctions were imposed on the young Nation of Zimbabwe which resulted in the bankruptcy of the government and collapse of the economy and his final outer through a military coup staged by his right-hand guy in 2017. Mugabe stepped aside but his party ZANU still continued to rule until his final transition to eternity in 2019 at the ripe age of 95.
He came, kept the faith, fought a good fight and left giant strides in the sands of time. May his gentle soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. Gratitude.
