The President of South Africa H.E. Jacob Zuma stepped out yesterday in to Nigeria ; his first official visit after his Country joined the most important and exclusive union of Nations- The BRICS [Brazil,Russia,India,China, and South Africa]states comprising of the richest countries in the world today and having more than 20 trillion dollars in collective reserves; he is stepping out with a new status of leadership of the African Continent and his first point of call was Nigeria as a special guest of honor in the Shehu Musa Yar Adua lecture held in Abuja yesterday.... President Jacob Zuma called for cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa addressed to reinvent a new frame work and policy thrust of leadership and leadership role in Africa.... He called for the genuine independence of the African countries to be free from imperialist domination in actions and policy thrust....He condemned in very stern language the Western interference in the Libyan crisis and condemned those who attacked Gadafi and killed him and called out that Africa should be left for Africans to invent home grown democracies and economies ..... which he called “African solutions to African problems.”
“The manner in which Libya was treated by some countries in the developed world remains a scar that will take many years to heal for Africa,” Zuma said.
“Developed countries with their own national agendas hijacked a genuine democratic protest by the people of Libya, to further their regime change agendas,” Zuma said.
South Africa voted for a UN resolution that imposed a no-fly zone over Libya but Zuma later accused NATO of over-stepping its mandate for airs trikes aimed at protecting civilians and of blocking AU peace initiatives.
He said Libya, was “bombed for months on end in the name of saving the lives of civilians, and finally its leader killed, not arrested and taken and tried in court if he had committed a crime. It could only happen in Africa, nowhere else.
“Thus we call on Africans to stand united.”
" The African Union summit next month “will have to deliberate very seriously on the Libyan question, to help this country return to normality.”said President Jacob Zuma
President Jonathan was represented by the vice president Namadi Sambo who also extol the virtues of late Shehu Yar Adua while former president Olusegun Obasanjo also spoke on a wide rage of subjects on the problems and prospects of the African continent... former vice president Atiku Abubakar was also in attendance and he had a side kick on OBJ as to compare his position to that of the visiting leader of South Africa.
