Yakubu and Chairmen of Political Parties storms NIPSS/EU Annual Summit of
Political Parties and Stakeholders
The Annual Summit of Political Parties and Stakeholders organized
by NIPSS/EU was held on the 2ed -3rd of May 2019 at Ibeto Hotel Abuja. It was
well attended by leaders of Political Parties and major stakeholders in the
democratic exercise of the Nigerian Federation.
High Chief Peter Ameh the IPAC National Chairman was in attendance
with other political parties chairmen among were H.E. Prince Frank Ukonga
National Chairman of DA-Democratic Alternative, Alhaji AA Salam National Chairman
Labour Party, Alhaji Lawal Nalado National Chairman Accord Party, Rev Olusegun
Peters National Chairman DPC, Engnr Okey Chikwendu Nat. Chairman AGAP, Mrs. Georgina
Dakpokpo National Chairperson YDP, Alhaji Moshood Shitu Nat Chairman ANP and
others.
Other dignitaries that stormed the occasion were the Acting
IGP Mr. Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, former IGP Mr MD Abubakar, Prof Mahmood Yakubu
INEC Chairman ably represented by the Director EPM Mr. Aminu Idriss, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu –Commandant
General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi-
Director General DSS,Mrs Maria Teresa Mauro of the EU, H.E. Ketel Karlsen EU
Ambassador to Nigeria and the ECOWAS,
NIPSS DG Jonathan Juma, Professor Habu S. Galadima of NIPSS/PPLPDC etc
The great occasion was chaired by Hon. Mrs Temi Harriman a
member of the governing board of NIPSS.
The Acting IGP said the election was fairly credible but for
the actions of some political parties and politicians who armed their thugs
with dangerous weapons to undermine the elections. He said some of those thugs
were arrested and their arms seized.
H.E. Prince Frank Ukonga spoke on four issues among which includes
issues of violence and rigging during the 2019 elections and how it adversely affected
the bright chances of the DA and how DA mandate was high jacked in Ekiti Ikole
House of Assembly election and in many other constituencies.
He emphasized the need for an overhaul of the electoral
system through proactive electoral Reforms and the issues of the need for government
to fund political parties.
