Tributes to Admiral Mike Akhigbe , a great CGS & Vice President of the
Nigerian federation & We thank the Vice President of the Nigerian Federation
His Excellency Namadi Sambo, the former President of Nigeria His Excellency
Abdusalami Abubakar, the Governor of Edo state His Excellency Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole, the Senate President of the Nigerian Federation Senator David Mark,
all the commissioners of Edo state and well
wishers for giving Admiral Mike Akhigbe a befitting burial. “His greatest wish
was to upgrade his Alma-Ata ( the school that he attended)- Igarra /Etuno grammar
school( St Paul} in to a University and assist in the development of the Akoko Edo
Local Government by sharing it into three LGA as obtained in other Areas of Edo
state and the Nigerian federation…”
Akoko Edo is the largest local government in Nigeria that
has not seen any development for the past 54 years after independence of the
Nigeria. Igarra the headquarters of the LGA Was a provincial capital of the
Kukuruku Province in the colonial era and had a better status and development in
the colonial era that the post independent era…all Provincial capitals of the
colonial era like Benin, Asaba, Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Katsina,, Minna etc have become state capitals today
having tremendous development but Igarra …and its peoples are wallowing in poverty, want, deprivations,
ruins and decay….it’s a pathetic story…
whence this is a passionate appeal to His Excellency Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan The President and
commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the Nigerian Federation; to help
actualize one of the greatest wish of a great Nigerian general who served with
honor and dignity to transform Igarra .
Etuno grammar school into a university and name it after the general as “Admiral
Akhigbe University -Igarra”…….This greatest wish of the great general of Edo
state is an open secret in Igarra and you can go there to investigate as he
attended several developmental meetings of the Akoko Edo LGA As special Guest
of Honor and he never for once hide this greatest wish…He grew up in Igarra and
his hometown Fuga is only 20 minutes drive from Igarra. He had lots of Igarra
friends including the Ukonga Family were his close friends and acquaintances…as
most Ukonga’s attended same Etuno grammar
school the Alma Ata of the Great general,
Prince Frank Onaivi Ukonga had the privilege to meet him
twice and “it was a privilege I’d cherish all the days of my life as he was
indeed a great, polished, intelligent, and remarkable general and a fine
gentleman of good demeanor”…
May the soul of the great general of Edo State Admiral Mike
Akhigbe rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the lord…Amen.
